Favorite Book of 2011 - The Hunger Games Trilogy, Suzanne Collins Good lord why did I not jump on this bandwagon earlier?! These books are so damn addicting! Suzanne Collins created a masterpiece with this trilogy, never have I been THAT much invested in a book series and I read A LOT. Even though the “love triangle” shouldn’t be the main focus of the books (but let’s face it, to a lot of people it is or will be especially when the movies drop), Collins did an amazing job with the whole Peeta/Katniss/Gale dynamics. I pretty much FELT why Katniss was so torn between the two, unlike Meyer and her poor portrayal of Edward/Bella/Jacob. Though I am Team Peeta/Katniss, I really felt for Gale and loved their friendship. And even though Peeta was painted in a light similar to Edward where he was so perfect and selfless in his love for Katniss, it wasn’t over the top to the point where I wanted to vomit. I know some people were annoyed with Katniss’s indecision between the two boys but her feelings were confused, okay?! No, but I felt most of the character depictions were realistic and the action was engaging. The nerd in me also freaked out over all the possible things to analyze and this may be unpopular opinion but Mocking Jay was my favorite of the three. It IS extremely dark and depressing but if you know me then you know that’s right up my alley. I could go on for days and days and DAYS about The Hunger Games, I’ve talked a number of friends into reading the books and they’ve ended up JUST as obsessed as I am. So to spare a long winded essay on my part I’ll just say that these books are brilliant. It doesn’t knock off my favorite book of all time, but it comes close. I pretty much fell IN LOVE with each and every character at some point and in different ways. Yes, even President Snow. But I really love Peeta, Cinna and Finnick and Johanna. If they screw up the casting for Finnick I’ll probably rage. I’ll stop right there before I start quoting the entire series to the point where you end up reading all of it off my tumblr.
