Favorite Song of 2011: Skyscraper - Demi Lovato
Not really surprised to see Demi making my favorite of 2011 list more than once. 2011 was all about the year of her comeback and she had a lot of great moments, including the release of her first single off her third album - skyscraper. It had been awhile since anyone heard something new from her in awhile, since her career had to take a backseat to her physical and mental health. And even though her own record label seems to not really care for promoting her and skyscraper received no prior promotion before it was released, it still went to number 1 in less than 24 hours.
I had tears in my eyes the first time I listened to it, hearing the raw emotion in her voice and knowing that she recorded it during an extremely difficult time in her life. Skyscraper has been such a huge song for so many people all over the world and even though the lyrics aren’t that deep (or great really), it’s Demi’s delivery that pretty much sold the song. No one has been able to perform it even close to how she does and I think that’s amazing.
Honorable mentions: Who You Are - Jessie J, Kiss Me Slowly - Parachute, Just A Kiss - Lady Antebellum, Someone Like You - Adele, Disaster - JoJo, Stronger - Kelly Clarkson, Somebody That I Used to Know - Goyte, Super Bass - Nicki Minaj, Stay Young, Go Dancing - Death Cab for Cutie, Sail - Awolnation, Next 2 You - Chris Brown and Justin Bieber, Arms - Christina Perri, N*ggas in Paris - Kanye/Jay-Z, Endlessly - The Cab, My Last - Big Sean ft. Chris Brown, Cake - Rihanna…and ashamed to admit but not really, What Makes You Beautiful - One Direction, Worldwide - Big Time Rush. Obviously it was a great year for music and I’m probably forgetting even more but a lot of these have certain memories attached to them ;)
